
Keeping Bathrooms Warm Without Blinding Your Kids
Designing an infrared heater for a bathroom is a bit of a tightrope walk. You need enough heat to take the chill out of a cold room, but you can’t just blast a blinding light into a space where people—especially babies—are hanging out. It’s a tricky balance. You want the warmth, but you don’t want the glare. The struggle with the light If you’ve ever looked at a standard short-wave IR lamp, you know they’re blinding. It’s that harsh, white light that makes you squint. That’s a real problem when you’re bathing an infant whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours. To fix this, we use special quartz coatings or specific halogen gases. Basically, we shift the light spectrum. We kill off those intense blue tones and dial down the brightness to create a “soft light.” It’s not just to make the bathroom look cozy—it’s about making sure the light doesn’t strain your eyes or hurt a baby’s vision. Dealing with the steam Bathrooms are damp. Really damp. If moisture gets into the electrical parts, the whole thing shorts out or the filament just burns through way too fast. To stop that, we seal everything up tight. We use high-temp silicone gaskets and IPX4-rated housings to keep the steam out of the terminals. Inside, there’s a tungsten filament working in a halogen cycle. The gas actually puts the evaporated tungsten back onto the filament, which keeps the bulb lasting longer. The best part? You get a beam of heat that hits your skin directly. You aren’t waiting for the air to warm up; you feel it instantly. The hidden challenges Here’s the thing: high-wattage lamps get incredibly hot at the base. Even with the light filters in place, the actual housing takes a beating. It expands and contracts every time you flip the switch. If you try to cram a powerful tube into a tiny box, the heat can actually warp the metal. That’s why we use gold-plated reflectors or high-grade aluminum. It keeps the shape of the heater intact, no matter how much heat we’re pumping out.
