
Keeping Things Safe: IR Heaters in Chemical Cleaning
If you’re doing chemical cleaning for semiconductor fab, you already know the deal. You’re working with volatile, flammable solvents. It’s a high-stakes environment. Now, imagine putting an infrared (IR) heating lamp right in the middle of that. One tiny electrical spark or a connection that gets a bit too hot, and you’re not just looking at a broken machine—you’re looking at a disaster. That’s why we obsess over the spot where the lamp meets the power supply. It’s the most vulnerable point in the whole setup. Why we stick with Teflon Most folks use PVC or silicone wiring, but in a chemical zone? That stuff fails fast. Between the aggressive vapors and the intense radiant heat, standard wires just give up. We use Teflon (PTFE) instead. It’s a beast. It doesn’t care about acid fumes or organic solvents; it just sits there and does its job without melting or degrading. Plus, it’s great at stopping current leakage, even when the air is thick with humidity and chemicals. Stopping the spark before it starts A lamp is only as safe as its seals. If the seals leak, you’re in trouble. We use a specific encapsulation process to lock down the transition from the electrode to the wire. We do this to stop “creepage.” That’s basically when chemical residue builds up on the insulator and creates a shortcut for the electricity. By potting those connections in a high-temp resin that laughs at chemicals, we kill the risk of external arcing. No sparks. No fireworks. The trade-offs Look, nothing is perfect. This heavy-duty sealing makes the heater a bit bulkier. You won’t be able to squeeze these into the same tiny gaps where you’d put a bare-wire lamp. And a quick heads-up: be careful with your mounting brackets. If you pinch the Teflon jacket, you’ve breached the insulation, and the safety rating goes right out the window. But for us, the trade-off is worth it. We build these for stability. When you pair PTFE insulation with an airtight seal, you get steady heat without the constant worry of a flash fire in your cleaning chamber. Your system stays running, and you can actually sleep at night.
