
Why we put our bathroom heaters through hell in a humidity chamber
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, random water splashes, and those wild temperature jumps when you step out of a hot shower into a cold room. It’s the perfect recipe for a short circuit. Sure, we could just put “IPX4” on the box and call it a day. But a spec sheet doesn’t tell you if a heater is actually going to last. That’s why we don’t just trust the rating—we put every single batch through a “damp-heat” aging test. Basically, we try to break them so they don’t break in your house. The deal with IPX4 When you see IPX4, it just means the unit can handle water splashes from any angle. To make that happen, we have to create a fortress around the infrared lamp and the electrical parts. We use specific gaskets and resins to keep the vapor out. Why? Because if a tiny bit of moisture sneaks past those seals and hits the high-voltage pins, your RCD is going to trip. Or worse. The “Breathing” Problem Here’s the thing: a heater might look great on day one, but what happens after three months? Humidity is sneaky. It makes materials expand and contract—almost like the heater is “breathing.” Over time, that movement can actually suck moisture right into the internal wiring. To stop this, we simulate years of bathroom use in a matter of days. We crank up the heat and humidity and just let it ride. We’re looking for any sign of rust on the contacts or any wear on the quartz. If the seal shifts even a tiny bit, the unit is tossed. No exceptions. The balancing act Now, there’s a catch. The tighter we seal the unit to keep water out, the harder it is for the heat to escape from the inside. It’s a bit of a trade-off. To fix this, we had to upgrade the internal wiring to handle much higher temperatures than you’d find in a normal heater. We also built a chassis that can take that trapped heat without warping or melting. It’s a lot of extra work. But it’s the only way to make sure that when you turn on your heater in a steam-filled room, it just works. Every single time.
