
Why Your IR Heaters Shouldn’t Blind You
When we’re building infrared heaters for places like nurseries or bathrooms, the biggest headache isn’t actually the heat. It’s the light. See, a basic IR lamp just blasts everything—visible light, UV, the works. In a nursery, that’s a disaster. You can’t have a light so bright it risks hurting a baby’s eyes or keeps everyone awake with a blinding glare. Keeping eyes safe To fix this, we basically “tune” the light. We use special gas fills and coatings to block those shorter, harsher wavelengths. By sticking to long-wave infrared (LWIR), we get the heat to go straight to the skin without that piercing, halogen-style brightness. It feels warm, but the light stays soft. It’s much more comfortable for everyone in the room. The guts of the machine We use high-purity quartz glass for the bulbs. Why? Because quartz doesn’t freak out when the temperature jumps up and down. It won’t crack under pressure. We also carefully calibrate the filament. We want it hot enough to do the job, but not so hot that you’ll get a nasty burn if you accidentally touch the surface. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where the heat is steady but safe. The reality check Here’s the thing: you can’t just glue a filter onto a cheap bulb and call it a day. That stuff would just peel off the moment it got hot. The coating has to be fused right into the glass. And just a heads-up—since we’re filtering out the visible light, these lamps aren’t going to light up your room like a stadium. That’s actually the point, but it means you can’t use them as your primary light source. If you need a room that’s both bright and warm, you’ll need two different systems. But if you just want pure, safe heat? This is the way to go.
