
How to actually pick the right infrared heater for your bathroom
When you’re looking at IP65 infrared heaters, it’s tempting to just grab the one with the biggest number on the box. But that’s usually a mistake. The goal isn’t just “more heat.” It’s about making sure the heat actually fits the size of your room and the materials on your walls. Since bathrooms are wet, that IP65 rating is a must—it keeps the moisture away from the electrics—but the wattage is what decides if you’re actually going to feel warm when you step out of the shower. Matching the power to your space If you’ve got a tiny bathroom (we’re talking under 4m²), you don’t need a monster heater. A 400W or 600W lamp is usually plenty. Here’s the thing: if you go too high in a small space, the room turns into a sauna in about two minutes. Your thermostat will constantly click on and off to keep up, and that constant cycling just wears out the relays faster. For the bigger bathrooms—anywhere from 6m² to 10m²—you’ll want to jump up to 800W or 1200W. Bigger rooms lose heat faster through the walls and the vent. If you go too low here, you’ll be standing there shivering while the lamp struggles to keep up. Plus, under-speccing actually costs you more in the long run. A weak lamp stays on forever, while a stronger one hits the right temperature quickly and shuts off. The trade-offs you should know about High-wattage lamps feel great. You get that instant, intense warmth the second you step under them. But there’s a catch. They create “hot spots.” You’ll be roasting directly under the light, but the corners of the room will still feel chilly. To fix this, try installing two 600W units instead of one big 1200W unit. It spreads the warmth around the room much better and kills those annoying cold spots. One last tip: remember that more power means more pull from your electrical panel.
